American Indian Success Program

The American Indian Success Program is designed to support and foster the educational success of American Indian students attending Minneapolis Community and Technical College (Minneapolis College). Our goal is to create a strong and united cultural community on campus that contributes to the retention, graduation and personal growth of Native students.

The program provides comprehensive support services, from admission to graduation, that specifically address the needs of American Indian students and affirm their Native cultural identity.

Program Benefits

Academic advising

You will work one-on-one with an American Indian advisor who will support and assist you from the beginning of your college career until you graduate or transfer to a four-year college. Your advisor is available to help you choose a major, select appropriate college courses, connect you with community resources and keep you on track toward graduation.

Financial aid and scholarships

Experienced advisors work individually with students to help them understand the financial aid process and find ways to make college affordable. We work directly with tribal scholarships and the Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program. We can also assist you with the federal and state grant processes.

Time management and study skills workshops

We offer workshops designed to help students succeed in college classes and develop personal academic skills on a weekly basis in the American Indian Success Program Center.

Native connections

Join us for orientation sessions that are held specifically for new incoming American Indian students. Native Connections will also help connect students to one another and to resources available at the College.

Student leadership opportunities

Leadership development is offered through the U.N.I.T.E. student group. Opportunities are available for American Indian students to plan and organize annual cultural events on campus, participate in Student Senate, become a student officer with U.N.I.T.E. and work with the larger Twin Cities American Indian community.

American Indian success program center

The center is available for students to meet one another, form study groups and participate in study skills workshops.

Voices of Hope speaker series

Voices of Hope is an inspirational speaking series that brings community leaders to Minneapolis College to share their personal college experience and discuss both the challenges and rewards of higher education for American Indians.
