A FREE Alternative to Developmental Education Coursework
Minneapolis Community and Technical College (Minneapolis College) invites you to take part in our Virtual Summer Scholars Academy program for FREE with the opportunity to earn a $400 scholarship.
The Summer Scholars Academy helps build your confidence as a scholar and provides you with an opportunity to network virtually with peers and staff from Minneapolis College.
Through the program you will:
- Develop learning strategies/study skills in reading and/or writing
- Save hundreds of dollars on developmental education courses by completing
- $400 scholarship toward fall semester tuition upon successful completion of the program
- $150 tuition scholarship for Spring 2027 upon successful completion of the summer SSA program plus a 2.0 GPA earned for Fall 2026
- Explore the services and resources available to you with Minneapolis College through workshops on:
- Time management and study skills
- Financial Aid literacy
- Student Support Center- Resource Referral
- Major and Career Exploration
- Critical Thinking and SMART Goals
- Self Care for College student, plus more!

The Summer Scholars Academy is available to Minneapolis College students with a READ 0200 placement.

Program Dates and Orientation
The Virtual 2026 Summer Scholars Academy runs from July 9 – August 6. Orientation for the Summer Scholars Academy program will be held in-person on the Minneapolis College campus on Tuesday, July 7, 10:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Schedule for Virtual Writing/English and/or Reading:
- Tuesdays:
- Writing/English: Class | 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. with Mandatory Virtual Workshop from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Reading: Class | 12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. with Mandatory Virtual Workshop from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Thursdays:
- Writing/English: Class | 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. with Mandatory Virtual Workshop from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Reading: Class | 12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. with Mandatory Virtual Workshop from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
