TRIO Starting Point: Services to Students

The following services are available and FREE to all TRIO Starting Point students:

Academic:

  • Staff advisor who works collaboratively with you throughout your time at Minneapolis College
  • Advice and assistance in course enrollment, selection and planning
  • Professional tutoring (see our Tutoring Center page for more information)
  • Transfer planning & preparation
  • Monitoring of academic progress, assessment, and intervention when needed
  • Advocacy with faculty and staff
  • Study skill development
  • FYST 1000: Orientation to Higher Education course (tuition paid for by program)
  • Academic resource lending program (examples include: daily & weekly laptop checkouts, SmartPens, digital recorders, short-term textbook use)
  • Transfer college campus tours
  • Educational workshops

Financial:

  • Financial aid award letter review
  • Assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Assistance in completing student loan and other aid applications
  • Assistance in monitoring financial aid limits
  • Financial literacy education
  • Assistance with scholarship searches and applications

Personal:

  • Career exploration and planning
  • Goal setting assistance
  • Peer Mentoring
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Cultural & social events
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Personal advising with referrals to on and off campus resources (housing, health care, work, etc.)
