Testing Exemptions

Minneapolis College uses placement assessment to determine student eligibility into programs and courses. The approved instrument used by the college is the Accuplacer placement using Next Generation tests. These tests are designed to evaluate your skills in Reading, English composition and Mathematics. They also qualify you for acceptance into Career and Technical Education programs (CTE).

Before testing all students should determine if you need to test. Students who have completed college level coursework, taken ACT, SAT or MCA exams or completed AP or CLEP courses may be eligible for a testing exception. Visit the Testing Exemptions webpage for more information.

Degree seeking students: All official transcripts are evaluated for testing exemptions. Placements scores or exemptions are displayed on your Degree Audit report available in eServices.

Due to COVID-19, Testing for ACCUPLACER in the college testing center has been suspended. The college had converted to an online testing option using Examity but as of March 24, 2020, this option has also been suspended. Please check here often for updates as we are exploring other options for testing. We strongly encourage all testers to submit their high school and college transcripts immediately after being accepted. Placement may be determined from these documents as well.

Degree seeking students who have completed coursework at a regionally accredited college or university may have already satisfied some or all placement requirements.

To obtain a test exemption, students should submit official transcripts from all colleges they have attended including CLEP, AP, and IB. Minneapolis College will review transcripts and grant placement for eligible students.

Students that are not submitting official transcripts may request an exemption using unofficial transcripts.

Have you submitted your high school transcripts – ACT – SAT – MCA scores?

You may also be eligible for a full or partial exemption from the Accuplacer test if you meet or exceed the minimum scores below within the last 5 years.

Students who meet/exceed the minimum scores needed below may complete the Request for Placement Test Exemption form and send to records.office@minneapolis.edu
