An Artist in the Real World

Treneyle ScheeleTreneyle Scheele was looking for a familiar school in his neighborhood with a strong Graphic Design Print Media program when he discovered MCTC. “I absolutely love studying at MCTC and would recommend the College to any and everybody,” said Scheele, who expects to graduate this fall semester and transfer to Dunwoody or the University of Minnesota. “The staff and faculty go out of their way for the students and there are so many resources available that it makes you feel like someone always has your back.” According to Scheele, the faculty, counselors and staff do a great job ensuring students stay on track and reach their goals.

Challenges and Rewards

“The most challenging part of my education has been to come out of my comfort zone to try new things and pushing myself to be open to reaching my full potential,” said Scheele. “Discovering new things I had no clue I could do has proven to be the most rewarding aspect of my education so far. Being a student at MCTC has boosted my confidence level to continue to strive to try and accomplish new things.”

Scheele describes himself as quiet; however, he says his personality comes out in his art. “Art is a way for me to speak without saying anything,” said Scheele. “I'm very in touch with my feelings and express them clearly through my art. MCTC has really given me the boost I needed to take my art to the next level of professionalism. I feel like I have the ability to confidently do things to make money from my art, even though I'm still just getting started. I never thought I would have the skills or confidence to be where I'm at today.”

Showcasing Student Art for the City to See

One of many opportunities Scheele has discovered through MCTC is participating in a project of the West Downtown Minneapolis Cultural District (WeDo™), a partnership between the College and several downtown Minneapolis organizations. WeDo designated part of the city as a destination to celebrate arts, culture and the unique attributes of Minneapolis. WeDo’s Made Here project temporarily fills empty storefronts and commercial spaces with local artists’ work creating a walkable, urban art gallery. Scheele’s art was selected for display as part of the Made Here exhibit.
