Occupational outlook

Employment of photographers is expected to grow 12 percent from 2008-18, about as fast as average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Demand for portrait photographers should increase as the population grows. Additionally, growth of Internet versions of magazines, journals and newspapers will require increasing numbers of commercial photographers to provide digital images. The Internet and improved data management programs also should make it easier for freelancers to market directly to their customers, increasing opportunities for self-employment and decreasing reliance on stock photo agencies.

Beyond-the-classroom opportunities

Numerous opportunities exist for you to take on internships, where you can get real world experience before you graduate. You may also choose to become a part of MCTC’s Photo club.

This program is part of the School of Design and the Arts.
