MCTC Recognized for Design Group

Minnesota Web Design Meetup group The MCTC Web Design department is making waves in local and national technology circles.

Host to the Minnesota Web Design Meetup group, a representative from the group, Keten Kakkad, was invited to the White House for its first national technology meetup on April 17. The web design group was one of 35 groups of its kind from the country to be represented at the event.

“It’s our collective success that was recognized and I am honored to be in company of such distinguished individuals at MCTC,” Kakkad said. “None of this would have been possible without a lot of hard work by many over the last three years.”

Kakkad is a designer, community partner of MCTC’s Web Design department, entrepreneur and organizer of the Minnesota Web Design group. The meetup group has been meeting at MCTC for several years and has nearly 1,000 members consisting of MCTC students, faculty and community members. The group has provided students the opportunity to network and showcase their work to potential employers.

“This was wonderful news for Keten, but also for MCTC for allowing our department the space to host these monthly meetings that our students and community have found so beneficial in building their careers,” MCTC Graphic and Web Design Instructor Bill Hendricks said.

The White House event was meant to recognize local community organizing and connecting those who share the same passions. The Meetup representatives also engaged in discussion on how to better technological competency in the community.
