MCTC Helps Train Vikings Stadium Construction Workforce

Building the Vikings Stadium: A Community at Work

MCTC and Mortenson Construction forges partnershipMinneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) is joining Saint Paul College and dozens of community organizations to identify, organize and train a Vikings stadium construction workforce that reflects the diversity of the state of Minnesota.

MCTC joins a coalition of community partners serving as an Employee Assistance Firm to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA). MSFA Chair Michele Kelm-Helgen, Mortenson Construction Vice President Ken Sorensen and others met with MCTC career and technical education faculty to forge this partnership early in 2013. The MSFA has committed to turning this major construction project into “the people’s stadium.” According to a recent article in MinnPost, this partnership and the coalition of partners supporting the project will not only assist the MSFA in meeting its goals of achieving a workforce comprised of at least 32 percent minorities and 6 percent women, but will also put a system in place to meet the workforce needs for future construction projects in Minnesota.
