Human Rights and Culture Presentations

Humphrey Law Fellows to Bring Expertise, Global Perspectives to MCTC

You are invited to hear Hubert H. Humphrey Law Fellows from the Human Rights Center of the University of Minnesota deliver presentations on topics of human rights and culture. Six fellows will speak to the MCTC community on two different days. The fellows bring a wide range of expertise in areas of international law, development, criminal justice and human trafficking. All presentations are held at MCTC free of charge and are open to the public.

Nawarathne Marasinghe

  • Senior State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Department and attorney at law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka
  • Awarded a gold medal for the best research article and published in the prestigious Law Journal of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka
  • Will perform a demonstration of Sri Lankan dance during his presentation

Sandhya Basini Sitoula

  • Program Coordinator at the Center for Legal Research and Resource Development, a national level NGO in Kathmandu, Nepal
  • Builds training for human trafficking protection actors and sensitizes concerned stakeholders in systematizing a victim-centered approach while prosecuting trafficking cases

  • Advocates for the rights of children before various departments in the government, provides aid to child victims of violence and conducts fact-finding investigations in cases of child rights violations

  • Investigates criminal cases, manages pretrial affairs of detainees, coordinates with prosecutors and police
