Setting up your voicemail box
On campus
If you do not share a phone:
- Press the Message button or dial 6400.
- When asked for a security code, enter 1234.
- Voicemail tutorial will play—see instructions below.
If you share a phone:
- Press the Message button or dial 6400.
- The voicemail operator will ask for a security code; press # + 9 + your 4-digit extension.
- You will be asked for another security code; enter 1234.
- Voicemail will play tutorial—see instructions below.
Off campus
- Dial 612-659-6400.
- Enter 9 + your 4-digit extension.
- When asked for a security code; enter 1234.
- Voicemail will play tutorial—see instructions below.
The tutorial will ask you to complete the following steps detailed below.
When asked a question, press 1 for Yes or 2 for No.
- Record your first and last name.
- Press 1 for yes to choose to be a part of the campus directory.
- Record a personal greeting.
- The system will state your fax extension.
You will then be asked if you want to set a security code.
Press 1 for Yes.
- Set a security code (3-10 digits) for your voicemail box. **
- Press 1 to save settings.
- Once you hear "Great! Welcome to the voicemail system…"
you will have completed the setup process.
**It is extremely important that you set
a security code for your voicemail box. This will ensure
your personal security as well as system-wide security.
To retrieve messages from your mailbox
On campus
If you do not share a phone:
- Press the Message button or dial 6400.
- Enter your security code.
- You will be at your messages.
If you share a phone:
- Press the Message button or dial 6400.
- Press # + 9 + your 4-digit extension.
- Enter your security code.
- You will be at your messages.
Off campus
- Dial 612-659-6400.
- Enter 9 + your mailbox number.
- Enter your security code.
- You will be at your messages.
Main menu options
Once you have accessed your Voice Mail, your main menu options are:
4 - Check new messages
5 - Leave messages
6 - Review old messages
7 - Change setup options
Message retrieval options
During a message, you can press several keys to control
how the system plays the message.
4 - Slower (Slow down the playback speed)
5 - Change volume
6 - Faster (Speeds up playback speed)
7 - Backward (Backs up about 3 seconds)
8 - Pause (Starts and Stops)
9 - Forward (Forward about 3 seconds)
* - Exit
# - Repeat
After listening to a message, your options are:
# - Repeat the message
0 - Save Message as New (New Messages Only)
5 - Check the Next Message
6 - Delete a Message (messages cannot be retrieved
after they are deleted)
7 - Archive a Message (messages will be saved for 14
days)
8 - Hear when the Message was Sent
9 - Redirect the Message to another MCTC user
During message playback, press 3 + the option above, to shortcut to that function.
* When listening to someone's greeting, you can press
* to bypass the greeting.
Shortcuts
For your convenience, here is a listing of common voicemail tasks and
their corresponding menu choices:
- To check new messages - Press 4
- To review old messages - Press 6
- To switch personal greetings - Press 7 4 5
- To change your standard greeting - Press 7 4 6
- To change your alternate greeting - Press 7 4 7
- To change your busy greeting - Press 7 4 8
- To set your security code - Press 7 7 4
- To change your recorded name - Press 7 7 5
