Transfer student
If you have attended college previously, please complete the following steps for admission. We recommend that you print this information for your reference.
Note: Acceptance into Minneapolis Community and Technical College does not guarantee enrollment in a career/technical program. A student's academic record and placement test results must meet the program's requirements and space must be available in order to enroll. Refer to the college catalog for specific career/technical program requirements.
Admission process
- Apply online
- Pay $20 non-refundable application fee
- Complete college placement testing requirements in one of the following ways:
- Complete the college placement tests
- Provide copies of Accuplacer test results (see Placement Testing page for eligible scores)
- Meet with a Transfer Admission Advisor to complete a placement test waiver based on completion of prior college coursework (you must provide copies of transcripts that show proof of meeting any or all of the reading, writing, and math placement testing requirements)
- Transfer students applying to the nursing program, regardless of prior college coursework or degrees completed, are required to complete the reading placement test
- Submit previous college transcripts; if you are planning to do any of the following, then you are required to submit official copies of transcripts from all previous colleges and universities you have attended regardless of academic standing or completion of the coursework:
- Transfer credits into the college
- Receive financial aid
- Receive veteran's benefits
Directions regarding where to send your official transcripts as well as information regarding transfer of credit are listed below.
You may want to have unofficial copies of your transcript available that list your name on them to be used for any waivers for testing or course prerequisites.
- Complete the transfer student orientation; once you have completed the admission process you will be sent your acceptance letter along with information to help you complete your transfer student orientation requirement. When you have completed the orientation requirement your registration hold will be removed and you will be able to register for classes.

The number of credits accepted will be recorded on your MCTC transcript and the MCTC course equivalencies will be recorded on your Degree Audit Report (DARS).
If your college transcript is from outside the U.S., you must also submit it to an evaluation agency for a course-by-course evaluation to be submitted to the Office of the Registrar. If the transcript is not in English, it must be translated into English by the evaluation agency or you must provide a certified, literal translation. We recommend the following agencies for evaluation and translation of non-U.S. transcripts:
