PSEO Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When are all my application materials due?

The application deadline for the Fall Semester is June 1st. The application deadline for the Spring Semester is December 1st. All of the required materials must be submitted or postmarked by the application deadline.

  2. Where can I get the State of Minnesota PSEO Form?

This is a form that you should be able to get from your high school counselor, or by visiting MCTC's PSEO webpage. This is a form that is filled out by you and your parent or guardian if you are under the age of 18, and also your high school counselor. This form must be submitted to MCTC along with the other required application materials.

  3. If my high school doesn't have a GPA system, how will I know if I've met the GPA requirements?

Students who attend high schools that don't have a GPA system in place are still able to apply to the PSEO program at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Students will need to submit a letter of recommendation along with their application materials if they do not have a GPA.

  4. My GPA isn't high enough to meet the requirements, can I still apply?

Students who have GPAs that are below the required amount (3.0 for Juniors and 2.5 for Seniors) must also submit a letter of recommendation. All of the required materials will be used to assess the student's ability to participate in the program.

  5. Do I have to schedule a placement testing date and time?

No, you will not have to schedule an appointment for our assessment tests, though you will have to turn in your application to the PSEO Program prior to testing. Reference our Testing Center's website in order to plan accordingly. Testing must be completed prior to the application deadline. Visit the Testing Center webpage for their available hours.

  6. What do my placement test scores mean?

The Accuplacer placement tests are used to determine a student's level of readiness when it comes to enrolling in college level courses. Your assessment test scores will also determine the types of classes you may take if admitted into the PSEO Program at MCTC.

  7. If I'm not satisfied with my placement scores, am I able to retest?

Yes, students are able to retest if they are not satisfied with their test scores. Students may retest once per testing term, but not more than three times in a twelve month period. Retesting must be completed before the application deadline. Reference our Testing Center's website for additional information regarding our retesting procedures. Visit the Testing Center webpage for their available hours.

  8. If I've already taken the Accuplacer placement test before, do I need to take them again in order to apply to the PSEO Program at MCTC?

We will accept Accuplacer placement test scores if they were taken within the last three years for English and Reading and then within the last two years for Mathematics. Students who have tested at another testing center or testing site will have to submit a copy of their previous test scores so that they may be transferred to MCTC.
