The Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program is a state funded program that provides high school students capable of doing college-level work the opportunity to earn post-secondary education credits while also completing high school graduation requirements. The PSEO program is only available during Fall and Spring Semesters.
The PSEO program pays for tuition costs and textbooks for college-level courses (courses numbered at the 1000 level or higher) taken for secondary (high school) credit. PSEO students are required to pay for the cost of equipment purchased by them which becomes their property (i.e. tools, calculators, microcomputers, etc.).
The PSEO application and all listed application procedures must be completed and submitted to Minneapolis Community & Technical College, Student Services Center (T.2200) by the published deadline. No exceptions!
Faxed application materials will not be accepted. Original documents and application materials must be submitted.
Please note: If the PSEO Application deadline falls on a weekend or a holiday, all required application materials will be due on the next weekday following either June 1st or December 1st.
Current Minnesota high school students may be eligible to enroll through the PSEO program at MCTC if they meet the following criteria:
Note: The results of the Accuplacer placement test are the determining factor for a student's eligibility to enroll in college-level courses paid for by the PSEO program.
If the applicant does not meet class rank or GPA requirements or if the high school/home school does not have a class rank, a letter of recommendation must be provided by the high school counselor, principal or instructor.
All candidates that have met the PSEO eligibility requirements and are eligible for admission consideration to the PSEO program are required to complete and submit the following documentation to the Student Services Center (T.2200) by the published application deadlines. Applications received after the application deadline will be considered for admission for the next available term following the deadline.
Applicants wishing to use their Accuplacer test scores taken at their high school will be required to submit a copy of their Accuplacer Student Score Report or submit a signed Request for Transfer of College Readiness Scores form by the published deadline.
Placement testing must be completed prior to the application deadline.
Applicant files will be reviewed after the program deadline and candidates for admission will be notified of their admission status via US mail within 30 days.
Students accepted into the PSEO program must attend a mandatory orientation in order to participate in the program and register for courses.
Applicants admitted into the PSEO program are not allowed to enroll in courses numbered below college level (numbered 999 or lower), including ESL, developmental, and ABE courses.
Any additional questions regarding eligibility requirements into the PSEO program may be answered by contacting the PSEO Coordinator, Sareen Dunleavy-Keenan at sareen.dunleavy-keenan@minneapolis.edu.
Some career programs require more than the completed admission process for eligibility. If you are applying to the following programs please contact the appropriate area listed below to learn about the additional admission requirements that exist for these programs.
Note: Acceptance into Minneapolis Community and Technical College does not guarantee enrollment in a career/technical program. A student's academic record and placement test results must meet the program's requirements and space must be available in order to enroll. Refer to the college catalog for specific career/technical program requirements.
High school graduation requirements: Be sure to meet with your high school counselor to ensure that you are taking appropriate classes needed for your high school graduation. Courses taken at the post-secondary (college) level should continue to fulfill high school graduation requirements.
Academic readiness: Is the student academically ready to compete at the post-secondary level? Is the student capable of handling more accelerated classes?
Emotional maturity and responsibility: Will the student be able to function in an adult setting (i.e. ability to get to classes and to complete assignments without close supervision)? Will the student miss high school involvement?
Scheduling: Most high schools and post-secondary institutions have differing yearly schedules and vacation times. Will the student be able to arrange his or her schedule on both campuses? If the student were to drop a post-secondary course mid-term, will he or she be able to enroll and earn required credits at the high school?
Graduation: Enrolling in inappropriate post-secondary classes could result in the student not graduating with his or her class. Withdrawing or failing a course may also result in the student’s inability to fulfill graduation requirements.
Transportation: The PSEO program does not pay for the cost of transportation. What arrangements are needed for transportation? Students should consider the amount of time it takes to travel from the high school to the post-secondary institution.
Financial: The PSEO program pays for the cost of tuition and textbooks during eligible semesters. Students are required to pay for the cost of equipment purchased by them which becomes their property, i.e. tools, calculators, etc. Some classes, i.e. music lessons, art or photography courses, have additional fees which must be paid by the student.
Students accepted into the Undergraduate, Non-PSEO program will be responsible for all tuition, fees, books, equipment and supplies.
