The application deadline for Fall 2008 is May 19, 2008 (no exceptions).
Minnesota high school students may take college courses to meet high school graduation requirements, as well as to begin their college careers, by enrolling in the Minnesota Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO) program. Students accepted into the program are not allowed to enroll in courses below college level. This restriction includes ESL, developmental and ABE classes.
To be eligible for admission for the PSEO program, a student must:
- Be at least 15 years of age.
- A Minnesota high school senior with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher as verified on the high school transcript.

Students are only accepted into the PSEO program for Fall and Spring semesters. All of the requested materials must be submitted by the application deadline.
Students accepted into the PSEO program will have their tuition costs and book fees waived. Students are required to pay for the cost of equipment purchased by them which becomes their property, i.e. tools, calculators, etc. Some classes (music lessons, art, photography, etc) have additional fees which must be paid by the student.
- Complete the MCTC PSEO/Concurrent application
- Complete the PSEO Notice of Student Registration form provided by the Department of Education (available from your high school counselor). This form must be signed by you, your high school counselor or principal, and a parent or guardian (if you are under the age of 18).
- Submit an official copy of your high school transcript.
- Take MCTC's placement tests. Applications must be submitted before taking the placement tests.
All students admitted to the PSEO program must attend a mandatory PSEO orientation.
What should be considered when making the decision to apply for the PSEO Program?
- High School Graduation Requirements: Students should meet with their high school counselor to review the credits necessary to meet their graduation requirements. Courses taken at the post-secondary (college) level should continue to fulfill high school graduation requirements.
- Academic Readiness: Is the student academically ready to compete at the post-secondary level? Is the student capable of handling more accelerated classes?
- Emotional Maturity and Responsibility: Careful attention should be given to the student's ability to work independently and to use self-discipline (i.e., the ability to get to class and to complete the assigned work without close supervision). Will the student miss high school involvement? Is the student ready to function in an adult setting?
- Scheduling: Will the student be able to arrange his or her schedule on both campuses? Most high school and post-secondary institutions have differeing yearly schedules and vacation times. If the student decides to drop a post-secondary course mid-term, will he or she be able to enroll and earn required credits at the high school?
- Graduation: Enrollment in inappropriate post-secondary classes could result in the student not graduating with his/her class.
- Transportation: What arrangements will be needed for transportation? Will travel time facilitate the scheduling at both the high school and college campuses?
- Financial: The PSEO program only pays for tuition costs and textbooks. Students are required to pay for the cost of equipment purchased by them which becomes their property, i.e. tools, calculators, etc. Some classes (music lessons, art, photography, etc) have additional fees which must be paid by the student.
