A grant is money that you do not have to pay back. Grants are available for students from both federal and state agencies and the amount that you are eligible to receive is calculated after you submit the FAFSA application. The U.S. Department of Education applies the same rules and calculations to every application to see who is eligible for financial aid. The MCTC Financial Aid Office then determines your financial aid eligibility by applying federally outlined rules.

Federal Pell Grants, which are based on need, are available if you have not previously earned a bachelor's degree. Ranging from $400 to $4,050 per year, they vary in amount based on your financial need and enrollment status, which is as follows:
MCTC awards SEOG grants, which range from $300 to $900, to students who receive a Federal Pell Grant and demonstrate exceptional financial need.
The Minnesota State Grant helps undergraduate students meet the cost of attending eligible Minnesota post-secondary education institutions, including MCTC. Program funds -- ranging from $150 to $4,500 -- are allocated to the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office by the Minnesota State Legislature to Minnesota residents who demonstrate financial need, according to the state's Shared Responsibility Formula. Students must take at least three credits to receive an award and at least 15 credits to receive the maximum award.
To receive a Minnesota State Grant, the FAFSA must be submitted to the federal processing center within 30 days after the term start date.
This grant is available if you are a Minnesota resident and take at least six credits per semester. The priority deadline for applying is July 30, 2008.
