  • Downtown Community TV Center
    Founded in 1972, DCTV believes that expanding public access to the electronic media arts invigorates our democracy. DCTV is the most honored independent nonprofit media center in the nation.
  • Dyke TV
    Dyke TV is a half-hour monthly television program produced by lesbians, for lesbians. We mix news, political commentary, the arts, health, sports, and much more to present lesbian lives-in all our variety-with intelligence and humor.
  • Free Speech TV
    Establishment media responds to the interests of stockholders and the perspectives of the advertizers who fill its pages, airtime and coffers. Free Speech TV attempts to respond to the interests of that majority of the people whose voices are excluded or distorted in the corporate media.
  • Globalvision
    For 13 years, Globalvision has produced award-winning news magazine shows, nationally televised specials, feature documentaries distributed internationally, public service campaigns, video news releases, special interest videos, event videos and corporate communications.
  • Independent Television Service
    ITVS brings independently produced programs to television - programs that engage creative risks, advance issues, and represent points of view not usually seen on commercial or public television. ITVS is committed to programming which addresses the needs of under-served audiences, particularly minorities and children.
  • Termite Television
    The mission of Termite TV is to create multi-faceted and multi-voiced shows which address issues of cultural, political, and aesthetic concern.
  • Paper Tiger Television
    An open, non-profit, volunteer video collective. PTTV works to expose the role of mainstream corporate media through the production and distribution of public access series, media literacy/video production workshops, community screenings and grassroots advocacy.
  • Undercurrents
    A British alternative news organization that provides access to video and audio reports on their web site.
  • Whispered Media
    A media collective that promotes the use of video, and other media tools, in progressive grassroots movements. Offers video witnessing, support and training, collects archival political footage, and produces video works about specific grassroots campaigns and organizations.
  • Youth Channel
    An alternative to mass media created to provide equal access to all young people, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or social status.

Theater Resources

  • Digger Archives
    The Digger Archives is an ongoing Web project to preserve and present the history of the anarchist guerilla street theater group that challenged the emerging Counterculture of the Sixties and whose actions and ideals inspired a generation.

Third World Issues

  • Resource Center for the Americas
    Founded in 1983, the Center provides information and develops programs that demonstrate the connections between the people of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. The Center is located in Minneapolis and includes a bookstore, a lending library, a cafe, and facilities to host workshops and events.
  • Third World Network
    The Third World Network is an independent non-profit international network of organizations and individuals involved in issues relating to development, the Third World and North- South issues. Its objectives are to conduct research on economic, social and environmental issues pertaining to the South; to publish books and magazines; to organize and participate in seminars; and to provide a platform representing broadly Southern interests and perspectives at international fora such as the UN conferences and processes.

  • Corporate Watch
    An online magazine that produces regular features about the role of corporations in social, political and economic and environmental issues as well as providing hands-on activist tools.
  • Global Campaign Webliography
    An ongoing effort of compiling together a comprehensive Webliography about WTO, Globalization and other issues of interested to progressives.
  • WTO Watch
    Provides up-to-date critical analysis WTO activities. Includes documents, multimedia material and a calendar of events.

Youth Liberation

  • blue jean online
    An alternative to the beauty and glamour web sites and magazines targeting young women. The teen and senior editors and teen correspondents are the driving force of blue jean online. This coalition of diverse young women is dedicated to publishing what young women are thinking, saying, and doing. blue jean online profiles girls and women who are changing the world!
  • Center for Commercial Free Schools
    Dedicated to promoting commercial-free environments in schools. They can help you oust the corporations from your campus!
  • Center for Environmental Citizenship
    This is as comprehensive a environmental action/information site for students can get. It includes student news features, toolkits and information essential for campus organizing as well as a place to sign up for EarthNet, a weekly listserve full of information about jobs, events, resources and action alerts.
  • The Free Student
    Available both on the Web and by e-mail, keeps readers aware of news of particular relevance to students. They run editorials, letters and the occasional original news story, but their central, daily feature is the News Caught in the Web. Recent subjects include politicians calling for censorship, the recording industry fighting Napster, and students fighting for freedom in Belgrade and Tehran.
  • Harlem Live
    An internet publication written, created, presented and represented by teens in Harlem and throughout New York City. Its core purpose is to empower youth of color to be productive, creative and thoughful leaders who will be responsible caretakers of their future.
  • Teen/Slant
    Teen/Slant was founded in June 2000 and began as a website purely devoted to politics for teenagers. It has expanded to include media and lifestyle issues.
  • Wiretap
    An independent information source by and for socially conscious youth showcasing investigative news articles, personal essays and opinions, artwork and activism resources that challenge stereotypes, inspire creativity, foster dialogue and give young people a voice in the media.
  • Youth Activism
    Looks to provide youth with advice so they can transform their ideas into practical proposals and develop strategies for gaining the attention, convinces community andgovernment leaders that young people must no longer be shut out of the decision-making process and urges organizations and institutions to take seriously the ideas and solutions offered by the next generation, promotes youth infusion on advisory councils, citizen task forces, adult coalitions, school boards, etc. and assists public and non-profit agencies on working as partners with young people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Brokenpencil
    A guide to alternative culture in Canada. Provides excerpts from zines as well as zine reviews. Includes zine ordering information. (MCTC Library subscribes to the print edition of Brokenpencil)
  • blogdex
    A system built to harness the power of personal news, amalgamating and organizing personal news content into one navigable source, moving democratic media to the masses. At current, blogdex is focused on the referential information provided by personal content, namely using the timeliness of weblogs to find important and interesting content on the web.
  • FactSheet 5 Web Edition
    Zine reviews, news from the zine world, and links to "e-zines."
  • Reader's Guide to the Underground Press
    A Reader's Guide features news, small-press reviews, letters, and a truckload of information you can't find anywhere else. The web version does not contain reviews but does provide lots of links and information about zines and the alternative press. (MCTC Library subscribes to the print edition.)
