The Minneapolis Community & Technical College Library has an
alternative press collection consisting of books, videos, audio CD's and tapes,
magazines, journals and self-published zines. The collection brings together
resources not found in most libraries or bookstores. The MCTC Library
Alternative Press Collection consists mostly of materials produced by
publishers who traditionally have been referred to as "leftist," or
"progressive." However, the Library also collects some material published by
the alternative "right." Alternative press material is shelved in the general
library collection with the exception of zines which are housed in a separate
location.

To learn more about alternative collection resources go to
Bibliographic Tools for the
Alternative Press, which is part of
Counterpoise,
an alternative review journal published quarterly (the MCTC Library subscribes
to Counterpoise). Or, go to the
Alternative Press
Collection Resources section at the bottom for information on
alterative press collection material available at the MCTC Library. The
Alternative Materials Appendix to our
Collection Development Policy might be of interest to librarians who are
considering developing an alternative press collection.
