Fulfill your prerequisites with transfer credits
Upon completion of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, you will have satisfied the general education component of any degree program at a four year MnSCU institution. The University of Minnesota also recognizes the curriculum with some minor modifications.
How to know if you're exempt from taking the placement tests
You may be exempt from placement testing if:
- You transferred from another MnSCU institution and took MnSCU-endorsed testing during the last two years. MCTC accepts scores from the following tests: the Accuplacer Computerized Tests, the Descriptive Tests of Language Skills, the Descriptive Tests of Mathematical Skills. MCTC also accepts the CELSA and CELT for the English as Second Language students. All second language students must complete the MCTC essay.
- You indicated on your admissions application that you are not seeking a degree, diploma, or certificate. EXCEPTION: You must take the placement test if you register for: (1) classes in ESL, English, Reading, or Math; (2) classes marked with a diamond; or (3) classes requiring a prerequisite based on placements received during placement testing. Information on prerequisites can be found in the course listing section of the current schedule. (NOTE: Students who are not seeking a degree, diploma or certificate are not eligible for financial aid.)
- You are a transfer student or have a degree. Students with acceptable ACT English, Mathematics, and Reading test scores may also be exempt. (See the college catalog for information on exemptions.) To have your exemption status determined, bring an unofficial copy of your transcript or ACT subscore to the Counseling and Advising Office (T.2500) or the Student Services Center (T.2200) to establish exemption status. A decision regarding your exemption status will be made available to you. All students must meet the prerequisites for courses they enroll in. Technical program students must meet the specific academic skill levels for their selected program.
