What is "satisfactory academic progress"

Satisfactory academic progress at MCTC is detailed in College Policy 4.13 and includes:

What it means to be put on academic probation

You have completed the first semester of unsatisfactory progress.

Students on academic probation are sent a letter advising them that they are put on probation (warning status) for the next academic term of enrollment. Students put on probation are still eligible for financial aid and are able to continue enrolling at the College.

You are one step away from being suspended unless you earn a grade point average of at least 2.0 each semester, and complete at least 67% of credits attempted each academic term. If you do not meet these standards, you are placed on academic suspension.

What it means to be put on academic suspension

Academic suspension follows academic probation and is the result of at least one of the following:

How to appeal your suspension

Note: You will not be able to appeal your suspension until you have received notification from the College that you have been suspended.

If you believe that extraordinary circumstances (e.g., personal illness or unusual personal circumstances) have affected your academic performance, you may appeal your academic suspension by completing the first two pages of the Academic Suspension/Maximum Timeframe Appeal form. Plan to attend a two-hour suspension appeal session and bring your completed appeal form with you. It's important that you come on time for the appeal session you choose to attend and stay for the entire session.

Check with Counseling and Advising in T.2500 for the dates and times of upcoming appeals sessions.

Together with your appeal form, you should prepare a statement of what contributed to your suspension and bring it to the session. Attach any supporting documentation that will support your suspension appeal petition (examples: hospitalization records, death certificate, etc.). It is important to attach a detailed statement explaining what contributed to your lack of success and what you have done to change that situation.

In order for your suspension appeal to be approved, you need to ensure that:

Be prepared to submit your completed suspension appeal form after attending your suspension appeal session.
