How to know if you need pre-college level courses
At MCTC, pre-college level classes are offered for credit and are nontransferable.
Pre-college level classes provide you with the basic academic skills needed for
college level courses.
Contact the pre-college
level advisor for advice on which pre-college level courses to take once you
have done the following:
- Apply for admission.
- Take the placement test. This test will help to identify your abilities
in writing, reading and mathematics.
- Look at the placement test letter that you receive after taking the
placement test. This letter tells you the classes that you should take,
based on your results. You know that you should take pre-college level
classes, if at least one of the courses listed on your placement test
result letter does not begin with 1000. Example of pre-college level
classes that you may see on your placement test letter include:
- ENGL 0900 Fundamentals of Written English
- MATH 0060 Preparing for Algebra and Technical Programs
- MATH 0070 Introductory Algebra
- MATH 0080 Intermediate Algebra
- READ 0100 Reading 1
- READ 0200 Reading 2
Other developmental courses that you may want to take include: ADEV 1100 "Strategies for College Success" or STSK 1150 "How to Study".
