Cultural Enrichment Series

Our Cultural Enrichment Series was developed to foster an understanding of the Hmong, Somali, and Latino cultures, all burgeoning populations in Minnesota. In this series of three seminars, developed in collaboration with Minnesota immigrants, we will cover the demographics of each group in our state, basic cultural history and background, as well as key cultural aspects and values.

The seminars offer a new perspective on cultural assimilation and provide a comparison of those cultures to the U.S. culture. They also address financial philosophies, and the marketing and customer service needs of each specific ethnic group. Each seminar closes with a synthesis of financial and cultural concepts that can serve as a plan for better serving or working with each cultural group.

Instructor: Dr. Brigid Bechtold has lived and worked in another culture, managed intercultural training for Honeywell, and worked in the financial services industry. She consults in customer service and culture change initiatives and also teaches English to immigrants.
