Evacuation Procedures for Students and Employees With Disabilities
In the event the fire alarm is sounded in any building on the MCTC campus, or an emergency evacuation is warranted for other reasons, the following procedures shall be used to assist in the timely and safe evacuation of mobility and sensory impaired students and employees.
Part 1. Responsibility
- Instructors and supervisors who have mobility or sensory impaired individuals in a classroom or work area shall ask the individual if they require assistance during an emergency evacuation. If assistance is needed, instructors and supervisors shall escort or direct the individual outside or to the nearest evacuation area as designated below.
- The College has designated emergency response teams with authority to coordinate and lead the evacuation process. Until the response of such team(s), the Public Safety and Facilities staff shall send representatives to the designated evacuation areas to assist with the evacuation if warranted of individuals waiting at these sites.
Part 2. Evacuation Areas
Kopp Hall
- 1st Floor Exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to the hallway west of the Legal Affairs Office (K1300)
- 2nd Floor proceed to K2700 by elevator lobby
- 3rd Floor proceed to K3332 by elevator lobby
Bowman Hall
- Lower Level Proceed to east end (near weight room) by stairwell.
- 1st Floor Go up the ramp and proceed to Kopp Hall.Follow evacuation procedures for 1st floor Kopp Hall.
Fine Arts Building
- 1st Floor Exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to H1300 hallway area.
- 2nd Floor Proceed to H2100 hallway area.
Helland Center
- Basement Go to northeast or southeast stairwells.
- 1st Floor Exit through doors outside for fire evacuation. For severe weather safe shelter proceed to H1300 interior hallway.
- 2nd Floor Proceed to restrooms near H2100.
- 3rd Floor Proceed to lobby just outside restrooms by the elevator.
- 4th Floor Proceed to lobby just outside restrooms by the elevator.
- 5th Floor Proceed to lobby just outside restrooms by the elevator.
T Building
- Basement Proceed to Stairwell A or Stairwell B and wait for assistance.
- 1st Floor Exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to stairwell A or stairwell C and wait for assistance.
- 2nd Floor Proceed to stairwell A or stairwell C and wait for assistance.
- 3rd Floor Proceed to stairwell A or stairwell C and wait for assistance.
- 4th Floor Proceed to stairwell A or stairwell C and wait for assistance.
- 5th Floor Proceed to stairwell A or stairwell C and wait for assistance.
Wells Building
- 1st Floor Exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.
- All floors move to elevator lobby areas for evacuation purposes.
Wheelock Whitney Hall
- 1st Floor exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to rooms L1300 and L1200 (library).If the Library is closed follow K-Building evacuation process.
- 2nd Floor Proceed to elevator lobby.
- 3rd Floor Proceed to elevator lobby.
Management Education Center
- 1st Floor exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to elevator lobby.
- 2nd Floor Proceed to elevator lobby.
Parking Ramp
- 1st Floor exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather safe shelter proceed to stairwell A.
- Basement,1,2,3,4 Proceed to stairwell A.
Transportation Center
- Evacuate to the bathrooms located in the southeast corner of the building
Aviation Center
- 1st Floor exit through doors outside for fire evacuation.For severe weather, occupants of the DSR lab should proceed to the hallway immediately outside the lab doors.All other occupants proceed to the hardened (Rivet) room located in the hanger.
- 2nd Floor shall proceed to interior hallway near stairwell/elevator
Center for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement
- Evacuate to interior hallway near rooms 103 and 104.
