Food Service Worker

This new three-credit course will inform you about the role and functions of the food service worker and provides the opportunity to learn about basic food service skills in an institutional setting. The course includes 72 hours of on-campus learning and 24 hours of experience in an industrial kitchen.

You will example the role of food service worker in relationship with other aspects of the food service industry including departments, organizational structure, operation considerations, and the industry as a whole. You will become familiar with kitchen equipment, large batch recipes, and serving and delivery systems.

Students who complete the introduction to Food Service and the Food Service Sanitation course will be eligible for the national Serve Safe certification.

This program may require an internship in a health care setting. Prior to being placed in the internship experience, you must pass a criminal background check prior to being placed. You must also provide proof of immunity status including a negative mantoux result.
