Representative Omar to visit MCTC to discuss student debt
State Representative Ilhan Omar will lead an open forum about student debt at Minneapolis Community & Technical College (MCTC) on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 7-8:30 p.m., in Helland Center, room H.1002.
Co-sponsored by the MCTC Student Senate, the student forum will center around conversation about student debt and the cost of education. Omar (DFL) represents District 60B and serves on the Higher Education & Career Readiness Policy & Finance Committee.
“This event provides a great opportunity for a State legislator to hear the voices of college students about the challenges of paying for higher education,” said MCTC President Sharon Pierce.
Representative Omar is expected to make some introductory remarks, followed by table discussions, after which she will engage in discussion with the students and other attendees.
“It’s great to see our State legislators taking such a strong interest in our college,” added President Pierce. “I’m pleased to host Representative Omar, and to see that our students here are demonstrating civic engagement.”
The event is free and open to the public.
