Minneapolis Mayor Hodges to visit MCTC, Feb. 16
Mayor Hodges plans to speak on civic engagement within an inclusive community, touching on relevant current events. She will also highlight her own path to politics while encouraging our MCTC students and community to get more involved with civic engagement. A question-and-answer session will follow, facilitated by Miki Huntington, MCTC political science faculty and Tara Martinez, MCTC’s Director of Student Life.
Hodges attended high school in Plymouth, earned a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College, and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin. A former Minneapolis City Council member for Ward 13, she was elected mayor of Minneapolis in 2013, and is only the second woman ever to serve as mayor. According to her website, Mayor Hodges is committed “to build(ing) an equitable city through transformational efforts to tackle and eliminate the disparities between white people and people of color.”
The event, sponsored by MCTC Student Life, will take place in Helland Center, room H.1002 at 10 a.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
