Maintain Your F-1 Status

In order to be approved for a program extension, you must have continually maintained legal status and the need for your extension should be due to delays caused by valid academic or medical reasons. Delays caused by academic probation or suspension are not acceptable reasons for a program extension. You should meet with an ISA for the program extension before the I-20 expires.

If you do not apply for a program extension before the I-20 expires, you are not eligible to apply for a program extension. This will result in the immediate loss of legal status. For more information, consult an ISA about your options.
