Commencement Ceremony

MCTC holds one commencement ceremony each year. You may participate in the spring ceremony if you have submitted a graduation application for spring or for the upcoming summer term, or if you earned an award the previous summer or fall.

2017 Commencement Ceremony

The 2017 Commencement Ceremony will be held in Minneapolis on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Additional details will be posted here are they become available.

Who can participate?

Any student who has applied for graduation is eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony, but must RSVP in advance. RSVP instructions will be sent in March to all students who earned an award the previous summer and fall, and to all students who applied for the current spring and upcoming summer terms.

Display awards (the printed, ceremonial document that is presented with a cover) are not handed out at the Commencement Ceremony. Any awards you have earned will be mailed to you approximately 8-10 weeks after your final semester.

If you miss the spring graduation application deadline

Your graduation application evaluation will be moved to the next upcoming term, but it may still be possible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Contact the Student Life department as soon as possible to discuss participation.

Spring graduates

Participation in the Commencement Ceremony does not guarantee that you have graduated. Your official graduation occurs after spring grades are posted and your graduation application has been evaluated.

Summer graduates

If you are finishing your requirements in the summer, you can still participate in the Commencement Ceremony, but you will need to submit your graduation application by the spring deadline on February 15. However, make sure to indicate that summer is your actual graduation term.

Fall graduates

If you earn an award after a fall semester, you’ll be invited to the Commencement Ceremony the following spring.
