Online Databases

The library provides access to many online magazine and journal databases. Many databases provide access to the full-text of the magazine articles in addition to the citation information. Some of the databases (such as those on PALS) can be accessed by a registered student using a computer with an Internet connection from off campus. In order to access these databases from off campus you must prove that you are an authorized user. To access the PALS databases you from off campus you enter your library barcode and your password, which is your last name. Other databases can only be accessed from computers located on campus. The library pays tens of thousands of dollars to purchase access to these databases and only authorized users are allowed to access the contents.

We will examine one of the PALS online databases in-depth in the following lesson. To learn how to use other online databases go to the Guided Exercises section of this Tutorial.
