Buttons on the WebPALS Start (Home) Page

Search PALS
Press this button to start searching WebPALS. When you press this button you will be taken to the database selection screen.

Link to Other Internet Resources
Takes you to a list of Minnesota academic and public library home pages, and links to online library catalogs.

Patron Information and Requests
Takes you to information regarding the items you have on loan from the library. It also provides you the option to renew your books online. To renew your books you will need to enter your PALS library barcode number and your password. Your password is your last name unless you have changed it. For MCTC students your PALS library barcode is located on the back of your student ID.

Telnet to PALS
Allows you to access "Classic PALS;" the older command driven PALS interface.

About WebPALS
Provides you information about searching WebPALS and the history of PALS.

Display Library Information
Provides you access to library hours and statistics.

PALS Home Page
A link to the MnSCU/PALS office homepage.

The Go Button

Go
You will find this button on many WebPALS pages. This button tells PALS to perform a search or process a request.

WebPALS Home Page
Takes you to the WebPALS Start (Home) page

Change Library or Database
Takes you to the WebPALS database selection page and allows you to select a different database.

New Search
Takes you back to the search screen to perform a new search.

Advanced Search
If you are in the basic search mode this button takes you the advanced search mode screen. Advance search mode allows you to do more sophisticated searching.

Basic Search
If you are in the advanced search mode this button will take you to the basic search mode screen. The basic search mode is the default mode for WebPALS

Buttons on WebPALS search results pages

Limit Search
Provides you options for making changes to your search. "Limit Search" is very helpful when you want to narrow your search results.

Next Screen
PALS displays results in sets of 20 items. Press this button to display the next 20 search result items.

Previous Screen
This button takes you back to the previous 20 search result items.

Go to Sets
Set searching is the most advanced search option in PALS. Once you have performed a search you can press this button and do a number of new searches which PALS saves as individual sets. You can then combine the search sets in various ways.

Sort Results
PALS allows you to display your search results in order by title, or by newest or oldest date order.

Next Record
When looking at an individual record citation you can press this button to see the next record in the search results list.

Previous Record
Allows you to look at the previous record in the results list.

Results List
Allows you to return to the search results list when you are viewing an item record.

Submit Interlibrary Loan Request
If the MCTC library does not own a book or a periodical this button allows you to submit an electronic interlibrary loan request. You will need your PALS library barcode number and password (your last name) to submit the request. PALS will prompt you for the date by which you need the item. You must give PALS at least five days from the current date to locate the item. If you can give PALS more time do so. Interlibrary loan requests usually take between 4 to 10 days to fill but may take as long as three weeks. The library will call you when your item arrives.

Place Hold
Allows you to place a hold on a book. When the book is returned the library will call you and you can come to the circulation desk to retrieve the book.

Print Options
Provides you various print options, including sending the citation or full-text article to your email.

MARC Display
Displays the technical database record with all MARC field tags and delimiters. The technical record is what the librarians use when cataloging a book.

Buttons on WebPALS periodical database pages

View Article
When the full-text of a periodical article is available in PALS this button will appear in the top left corner of the citation record. Press this button to see the full-text of the article.

Current Record
When looking at the full-text article this button will take you back to the citation record.
