Program description
MCTC’s brand new Restaurant Management program offers a unique blend of management training with culinary training. Working in state of the art facilities, you will gain everything you need to know in order to be successful in this exciting field. You will be able to specialize in a specific area- so whether your dream is to own your own restaurant or manage a catering business - you’ll have the financial chops and culinary training to set you on your way.
Program start and location
You may start Restaurant Management in the Fall or Spring Semesters. Classes take place at MCTC’s main campus.

What you will learn
- MCTC’s Restaurant Management Program prepares you in all facets of running a restaurant operation and helps you to develop a full understanding of the elements necessary to be a successful leader in the restaurant industry through exploring both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house functions.
- You will receive instruction on culinary fundamentals, purchasing and receiving products and analyzing food, beverage and cost controls.
- Coursework will also include a focus on supervision, accounting, marketing and management.
- Upon completion of the program, you will be ServSafe Sanitation and ServSafe Alcohol certified.

Occupational outlook
Food service manager jobs are expected to grow 5 percent, through 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. MCTC’s program gives students an edge when competing for jobs at upscale restaurants and for advancement in a restaurant chain or into corporate management through excellent training and practical experience.
Beyond-the-classroom opportunities
- The Restaurant Management Program includes a 160-hour required internship and a capstone course that develops your e-folio to display your experience for future employers or to assist in your transfer to a four-year university.
- You will receive extensive hands-on training in MCTC’s cooking labs and in the student-operated dining room that is open to the public. You will also have the opportunity to participate in numerous community service events wherein you can apply your culinary and supervisory expertise.
