MCTC Foundation Scholarships

The MCTC Foundation awards numerous scholarships each year to students in need as well as to students with high academic potential. During the 2010-2011 school year, the MCTC Foundation awarded over $387,000 to 291 students. Scholarship information for the 2012-2013 school year is now available. Please refer to the scholarship packet to see available scholarship opportunities.

The scholarship application deadline is May 25, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in T.2500.

Homeland Security Specialist

Program description

MCTC’s Homeland Security Program prepares you for the vibrant and growing industry of homeland security and disaster management. This new and exciting career field that helps protect the community from natural and man-made disasters is becoming as essential a component to public safety as law enforcement, fire protection services and emergency medical services.

Program start and location

Courses are taught at MCTC. Students are accepted into this program for fall, spring and summer semesters.

What you will learn

  • The curriculum of the Homeland Security Specialist Associate in Applied Science Degree is designed to introduce you to the concepts and theory of homeland security and emergency management.
  • The overall program goal is a prevention model, focusing on risk assessment and threat analysis.
  • You will understand how to employ techniques that address deterrence or "target hardening" and utilize practices designed to mitigate threat and potential loss.

  • The crisis management emphasis will address disaster recovery as well as preparation and execution of contingency plans.
  • In addition to program courses in homeland security, by completing the A.A.S. degree you can easily transition to MCTC's Law Enforcement Certificate Program to prepare to take the State peace officer license examination.

Occupational outlook

Employment of Homeland Security Specialists is projected to grow 21.6 percent in the U.S. from 2009 to 2019, according to iseek.org The events of September 11, 2001 have caused many communities to evaluate their emergency management plans. As a result, there is a nationwide demand for emergency management specialists. The greatest demand is currently with local government agencies.
