Program description
Learn the art and craft of Cinematography in the most affordable program in Minnesota. MCTC’s Cinematography Program boasts experienced instructors who are passionate about what they teach, and cutting edge facilities and technology. This innovative program uses a combination of aesthetic, technical and theoretical approaches, specializing in the photography of motion pictures.
Program start and location
New students are admitted into the Cinema programs in the fall semester only. Courses are taught on MCTC’s main campus. You will spend considerable time outside the classroom working on productions.

What you will learn
- You will use both film and electronic media to record images while developing solid skills in camera operation, dramatic lighting and pre-visualization.
- You will establish strong collaborations with Directing students as well as with the other programs in the Division.
- Program faculty are committed to following emerging technologies and will incorporate such technologies whenever possible.
- You will learn the best practices for professional standards and expectations.

Nationally, the number of jobs in the entertainment industry is expected to increase through the year 2016 as a growing population enjoys movies as entertainment. There is strong demand for productions from foreign and domestic television, cable television, pay TV services and feature film markets. In addition, computer and Internet services are providing new outlets for film productions.
