These are international industry credentials sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The certifications are recognized by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers and publications. CompTIA has established relationships with 80 companies that recognize the certifications including: Novell, Intel, Lotus, Microsoft, 3Com, and Cisco.

A+ Certification

A+ Certification is the industry-wide standard for measuring benchmark level, vendor-neutral technical certification skills expected of a technician with six months on-the-job experience. It validates the technical knowledge required of an entry-level computer service technician. The intent is to certify a body of knowledge that is identified and accepted as the baseline or foundation of any entry-level PC technician.

Network+ Certification

Network+ Certification validates the knowledge of networking professionals with 18-24 months of experience in the IT industry. Network+ is an accepted baseline, vendor-neutral certification for networking professionals, which can also serve as a prerequisite to vendor-specific IT certifications.

Security+ Certification

Security+ Certification is a vendor-neutral certification exam for the field of information security and sets globally accepted skill and knowledge standards. The exam covers five key areas: general security concepts, communications security, infrastructure security, cryptography, and operational/organizational security. It is designed for professionals with at least two years of experience and thorough knowledge of TCP/IP.

CECT Instructor Paints with Kids

Continuing Education and Customized Training (CECT) art instructor Yuya Negishi visited fourth and fifth grade students to show them some of the skills he teaches in his Japanese Sumi-e Ink Painting and Calligraphy class at MCTC. "I see beauty through working with kids. I’m a teacher, but at the same time those students taught me a lot," he said.
