MCTC is a participant in the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) which emphasizes two purposes for accreditation: assuring quality and stimulating improvement.

AQIP infuses the principles of continuous quality improvement and systems thinking into the academic culture. AQIP expects each institution to use nine AQIP categories to structure a Systems Portfolio - an organizational resource that describes key institutional systems and their performance results. The categories provide a framework for examining key processes while ensuring energy and resources are invested in ways that help achieve institutional goals.

The nine categories are:

  1. Helping Students Learn
  2. Accomplishing Other Distinctive Objectives
  3. Understanding Students' and Other Stakeholders' Needs
  4. Valuing People
  5. Leading and Communicating
  6. Supporting Institutional Operations
  7. Measuring Effectiveness
  8. Planning Continuous Improvement
  9. Building Collaborative Relationships

MCTC submitted its most recent Systems Portfolio to the Higher Learning Commission in November 2011.

Further background about Systems Portfolios can be found on the Higher Learning Commission’s website or by contacting Gail O’Kane, Interim Vice President for Strategy, Planning & Accountability at gail.okane@minneapolis.edu or 612-659-6299.
