Student Stipends
Part 1. Stipend Awards
Stipends may be awarded to student leaders at MCTC as indicated below:
Subpart A. Stipend Recipients
Stipend recipients may include:
- leaders of the student senate;
- College newspaper leadership positions;
- Phi Theta Kappa leaders; and
- other student leaders as determined by the College.
Subpart B. Stipend Form
Stipends shall be awarded as credits. All credits will be reimbursed at the current general in-state tuition rate.
Subpart C. Stipend Size and Frequency
MCTC may award up to 64 semester credits per year. These credits shall be awarded to students on a semester basis as follows, as determined by the Student Life Budget Process:
STUDENT SENATE (12 credits per term):
Up to eight (8) credits per term may be awarded to the Student Senate President. Up to 4 credits each term may be awarded to other Student Senate leaders as determined by recommendations made to and evaluated through the Student Life budget process. With the exception of the Student Senate President, no Student Senate Leader may be awarded more than 4 credits per term.
STUDENT NEWSPAPER(12 credits per term):
Up to eight (8) credits per term may be awarded to the Editor-In-Chief of the College newspaper. If workload dictates, other newspaper staff may receive up to 4 credits per term as determined through the Student Life budget process. With the exception of the Editor-in-Chief, no more than 4credits may be awarded to any one newspaper staff.
PHI THETA KAPPA (4 credits per term):
Up to four (4) credits per term may be awarded to the Phi Theta Kappa President.
AT-LARGE STUDENT LEADERS (4 credits per term):
Up to four (4) credits per term may be awarded to other student leaders as determined by recommendations made to and evaluated by the Student Life Budget Committee.
Additional stipends may be authorized by the College.
Part 2. Methods of Financing
Subpart A. Method of Financing Stipend Awards
Stipends shall be financed from Student Life funds through the procedure of tuition reimbursements.
Subpart B. Process of Administering Student Awards
- The College shall reimburse the student for the stipend credits at the completion of the term.
- The per-credit rate of reimbursement shall be based on the current general in-state tuition rate.
- Stipend recipients must obtain a semester GPA of 2.0 and a completion rate of 67% (for applicable semester) or better in order to receive tuition reimbursement.
- Stipend awards may not exceed the number of credits taken by a student in a term.
- Under no circumstances may any individual student be awarded more than 8 stipend credits within a single term.
- Stipends shall be awarded for fall and spring terms only.
- Unused credits from the Student Senate, Student Newspaper, Phi Theta Kappa, and At-large Student Leaders may not be reassigned to one another.
- Credits may not be carried over from year to year.
