Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) was honored to host U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Thomas Perez this week for a roundtable discussion with some of the Twin Cities leaders in business, education and technical careers in light of a nationwide push for tuition relief program for community colleges.
Celebrating a First in MCTC Nursing
More than 50 students graduated from the first cohort of MCTC’s Professional Nursing (NPRO) program along with students from other MCTC Nursing programs. In 2013, MCTC and Augsburg entered into a partnership offering two-year MCTC NPRO graduates the option to directly transfer to Augsburg College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and earn their degree in three years.
Students Compete in SkillsUSA Championship
Nine MCTC students demonstrated their technical skills in the statewide SkillsUSA Championship last month. Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) student Joey Gomes placed third in the HVACR contest, continuing the College’s tradition of placing a student within the top three spots in this category each year since 1995.

Campus Security Supervisor Honored
MCTC Security Supervisor Daniel Alberts has received the Chancellor’s Award for Facilities Excellence by the Minnesota State College and Universities (MnSCU) system. The award is given to those who excel in facilities management and leadership on their campuses.
