Registration for fall semester at Minneapolis Community and Technical College is underway providing current and prospective students with an opportunity to register for a variety of career and technical, trades, health and sciences and liberal arts courses that will prepare students for a variety of employment opportunities in our global society.
In keeping with the dynamically changing times, MCTC is offering nine new programs resulting in new credentials for graduates. Students have an opportunity to let their dreams soar at the College.
The new AA degree with an emphasis in African Diaspora Studies will provide students an opportunity to obtain an AA degree and complete the required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum at the same time. African Diaspora studies will focus on the historic movement of Africans and their descendants to places throughout the world.
Across the spectrum, individuals interested in business management can now obtain a certificate in Entrepreneurship. Courses will explore launching a new business from an innovative idea focusing on critical elements of business success including research, planning, feasibility analysis, capitalization and management.
One of the critical elements to a successful career regardless of your major is having an understanding and adeptness in communication. MCTC now offers an AA with an emphasis in Communication Studies and a Certificate in Communication Studies. Comprehensive courses take students on a journey through the fundamentals of communication to interpersonal and family communication to public speaking, argumentation and advocacy, to name a few.
Taking communications to paper, MCTC’s new AA degree with an emphasis in Creative Writing provides a comprehensive degree with emphasis on the essentials of creative writing. Students will be given an opportunity to explore short stories, novels, poetry and drama as they complete their liberal arts coursework.
Directing and Producing have been among the many sought after programs at MCTC. Fall 2012 marks the first time AS degrees are available for Directing and for Producing separately. The separation of programs allows students to garner a more comprehensive understanding of each program area as well as better target their ultimate career goal.
MCTC’s new Dynamic Media Certificate integrates the latest developments in innovative digital photo technology with traditional photographic skills such as composition, exposure, camerawork and lighting. Dynamic media, visual journalism and audio will be among course offerings to help students stay on top of the quickly changing field of dynamic media.
Health related fields continue to prosper and MCTC’s new Health Foundations Certificate was developed to meet the demand. Coursework for the new certificate includes personal community health, managing stress, grief and loss, first aid and CPR, human sexuality, fitness, and weight management.
As people strive to get fit, MCTC stays on top of the game by offering opportunities for the physically active to obtain one of two new certificates: Personal Trainer and Group Exercise and Yoga Teacher Training.
