MCTC Signs Democracy Commitment

This past year, Minneapolis Community and Technical College became a signatory to The Democracy Commitment, a national initiative that provides a platform for the development and expansion of programs and projects designed to engage community college students in civic learning and democratic practice. See the New York Times insert

The goal of The Democracy Commitment is that every graduate of an American community college will have had an education in democracy and civic engagement. This includes all students, whether they aim to transfer to a university, achieve an associate degree or obtain a certificate.

MCTC has a history of connecting student learning to civic engagement and democratic skill development through service-learning courses, the Public Achievement program, Power of You, and many of our co-curricular student life initiatives. By becoming a signatory to The Democracy Commitment, we have publicly committed to move beyond isolated pockets of activity to making this work a central focus of the College.
