Spirit and Soul: Linking Present and Past

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 24, 2016

Spirit and Soul Concert and Reception

Spirit and Soul illustrationThe movement of members of immigrant communities across national borders creates both challenges and novelties for the travelers. Transplanted members of cultural groups are confronted with reinterpreting and adapting their cultural traditions to a new social environment while simultaneously resisting and embracing the cultural traditions of their new home. The songs, dances and traditions of their former homes continue to bind together diasporic communities, link the immigrants to their nations of origin and now serve to represent the cultural group in diverse and cosmopolitan settings like Minneapolis.

Join the Minneapolis Community and Technical College Foundation and The Basilica of Saint Mary for the Spirit and Soul concert and reception, a celebration of music, dance, performance, art and entertainment from immigrant communities across the Twin Cities. The concert and reception will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 7 p.m. at The Basilica of Saint Mary located in downtown Minneapolis at Hennepin Avenue and 16th Street North. Free parking will be available in the MCTC ramp and no RSVP is necessary.

Gather your friends and family for this opportunity to celebrate the spirit and soul of our diverse Twin Cities community. Additional information is available at mary.org or by calling 612-333-1381.
