MCTC Receives Great Lakes Grant
MCTC Awarded College Success Grant
Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation (Great Lakes) has awarded Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) a grant of $116,641 through its college success grant program. This funding will be used by MCTC’s Starting Point program to provide academic services such as tutoring, mentoring and intensive advising, as well as access to learning communities.
The mission of MCTC Starting Point is to increase retention, transfer and graduation rates for low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities. Starting Point was created to assist students enrolled at MCTC and also provides services to TRIO students in the Student Support Services program. "The programs funded by this round of College Success grants are providing services proven to help students make progress toward their degree," said Richard D. George, Great Lakes' president and chief executive officer. "Each program has been thoughtfully designed to address the challenges known to keep students from graduating, helping them to develop connections to their campus, peers, faculty, and staff and overcome financial obstacles. We look forward to seeing the impact of each of these programs in helping their students persist towards graduation."
