Screening of North Star: Minnesota's Black Pioneers
By any measure, Daniel Pierce Bergin, MCTC alumnus, has had a successful career. As a longtime television producer, media educator and independent filmmaker, he’s won multiple awards for his work, including an Emmy for North Star: Minnesota’s Black Pioneers, a documentary that tells the stories of African- Americans who helped shape the state in its early years.
This two-hour history documentary is kind of an anthology of different stories from over the two centuries of the black experience in Minnesota. The two parts are grouped by theme. The first hour is about making a home, and are primarily stories about arrival and settling in Minnesota for African-Americans of various times. The second hour is about making change.
Daniel Bergin will be on the MCTC campus Thursday, February 16, 6 - 8 p.m. in L.3000 (Wheelock Whitney Building) for a screening of this documentary series followed by a panel discussion. Information about this and other Black History Month events can be found here.
