MLK Jr. Day of Service
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy, MCTC is hosting a day of volunteer service, Sat., Jan. 19, 2013, from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. The Day of Service brings community members together for breakfast, inspirational speakers and music, followed by volunteering at local nonprofit organizations. This year’s theme, “voices of the community,” explores what it means to find a common voice and work toward a common goal.
In preparation for the event, the MCTC MLK Committee, alongside MCTC’s Art Club, is inviting students, staff, faculty and the community to explore what King’s dream means to them through an artistic endeavor using both chalk and paint. We invite you to visit the T Plaza Tuesday Dec. 11 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.), Wednesday Dec. 12 (noon–9 p.m.) and Thursday Dec. 13 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.) and share what King’s dream means to you on our canvas and chalkboard. The artistic exploration will be filmed and the final piece will be on display in MCTC’s T Plaza through the MLK event in January.
